NASCAR Racing has become one of the most popular sports in America and its popularity is increasing every year. For those of us who are NASCAR fans we completely understand why it has increased in popularity, but many others don’t understand why. To those non-NASCAR fans, they ask, “What is there to love about a sport with just left turns?”.
So why is NASCAR racing so popular? It is hard to say, but I think that there are several reasons that come up over and over. This article will explore why NASCAR fans love the sport so much..
The first reason that NASCAR racing is so popular is that it is easy to follow. My wife has watched football all of her life, but to this day she does not truly understand the rules. However, the rules of NASCAR racing are fairly easy. As with any race, the NASCAR driver that finishes first wins. It doesn’t get much easier than that.
Over 100,000 NASCAR fans show up at the racetrack every week to watch their favorite NASCAR drivers race toward the Sprint Cup. But many million more fans have a Sunday ritual of watching television on raceday. This doesn’t even count the many more who gain access to BUSCH races, qualifying sessions, and practice sessions. There are also many race fans who make big weekend events out of races with tailgating and barbeque grilling.
The second reason why NASCAR racing is so popular is because NASCAR has done a great job making it a family sport. Husbands, wives and children all love to watch the races together as a family. A husband may like Tony Stewart, a wife Dale Jr and the kids liking Jeff Gordon. This is one of the biggest reason why NASCAR racing has seen an increase in popularity. It is a family sport. Both kids and adults like racing.
Another one of the many reasons why NASCAR racing has seen an increase in popularity is because of the drivers. Most racers seem like your average guys. They don’t come off as primadonnas like in baseball and basketball. Many NASCAR drivers started racing around dirt tracks and come from normal upbringings just like the fans of the sport..
NASCAR is popular for many different number of reasons. One article can’t describe in totality why millions of Americans tune into watch a NASCAR race. However, the results speak for themselves. NASCAR is the fastest growing sport in terms of popularity in the United States. It is showing no signs of leveling out in its grow of fans.

What’s new for GM Racing? Well, aside from manufacturing auto parts like GM tail light guards for their race cars, GM also got something new for the motor sports industry. The 2007 season of the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series is an important event for GM Racing team for them to unveil a brand new racing machine and an all-new engine. GM will make the NASCAR debut of the Chevrolet Impala SS “Car of Tomorrow” along with R07 small-block V-8 racing engine. Along with the debut of the Chevrolet Impala SS, GM also announced their latest development in testing vehicle aerodynamics called the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) that will be implemented in all GM race cars.

Here is how Kevin Bayless, GM Racing oval track chassis/aero Program Manager explains how the CFD works:

“The best way to describe CFD is a wind tunnel in a computer. CFD is a simulation that predicts the aerodynamic forces acting on a vehicle using computational methods rather than physical measurements. CFD allows engineers and racing teams to evaluate the effects of aerodynamic changes quickly on a computer screen rather than in a conventional wind tunnel.

The CFD software requires a supercomputer because the number of calculations is immense. For example, our aerodynamic models typically have more than 10 million discrete data points that are used to calculate the forces. It really is rocket science.”

“CFD allows us to visualize the flow to understand what the air is doing and where the aerodynamic forces are being generated. That’s simply not possible with a model or a full-size vehicle in a wind tunnel. CFD also allows us to test aerodynamics without a physical model, which can be helpful in the early stages of a design. We can analyze and compare various alternatives before actually building a prototype vehicle.” he further explains.

GM Racing will first implement the CFD aerodynamic simulation system to the next-generation Chevrolet Impala SS that will debut in NASCAR Nextel Cup Series. GM said engineers utilized the CFD to gain insight into the effects of the new body shape, front splitter, and adjustable rear wing of the Impala SS. However, GM said although CFD is a powerful engineering tool for testing vehicle aerodynamics, it is not a replacement for the typical wind tunnel and track testing.

Bayless commented: “Although the Car of Tomorrow is highly regulated, it’s not a spec race car. As a manufacturer, Chevrolet was able to define many of the details that separate the Impala SS from our competitors’ cars. The headlights, grille, portions of the hood, and the tail were areas where GM Racing was able to incorporate Impala SS styling cues and brand identity. These areas are now fixed as part of the NASCAR Impala SS package.”

“The computing time required to run CFD programs is a limitation even with a supercomputer,” Bayless noted. “A team can run through more tests in a day in a wind tunnel than can be done with CFD. At this point in its development, CFD supplements the testing that’s done in wind tunnels and on race tracks. We share the information that GM Racing obtains through CFD with the Chevy teams.” he added.

Just wait and see how the Chevrolet Impala SS “Car of Tomorrow” performs at the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series this season.

We all have our favorites. One may be inclined to liking music. Others pursue art. There are those who turn to sports for recreational purposes and as a hobby. Some even make a career out of sports. The huge following of certain games like basketball and football proves that many people value and adore athleticism and sports. NASCAR can also be considered one of the favorite sports, motorsport to be exact, of the public not only today but ever since. No wonder the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, the Nationwide Series and the Camping World Truck Series are huge hits season after season.

If you want to catch the race and watch it live or on TV, you must check out the NASCAR schedule first. There are three common folks who get details regarding the NASCAR race schedule. They are the following:

You would understand why a NASCAR fan constantly checks out the schedule even if that person isn’t yet sure if s/he can watch. If you are a fan of something, you can’t help yourself for more of that stuff even if it’s just a mere race schedule. You should see how fans of this motorsport drool over related merchandise or items as well.

However, not everybody who checks a NASCAR schedule is a pure fan of the sport. Sometimes, they are just bettors who are only after the shot of winning and taking home as much cash as possible. They don’t really care about the race or the motorsport. What they care about is the price. Still, these people add up to the huge following of NASCAR and that’s not pretty bad at all when you are developing a fan base. Other sports including basketball, football and golf have spawned online or offline betting games too.

However, some folks are just pure, die-hard fans of NASCAR, nothing more and nothing less. For an avid NASCAR enthusiast, there isn’t a thing related to the said motorsport that s/he won’t get hold of – from schedules to merchandise to news articles to the outcome of the race. One can say that these people are watching NASCAR for pure entertainment purposes and pure love of the sport. It doesn’t have to be work and it doesn’t have to be about bets.

Now you know that the NASCAR schedule is pretty much important to some people. It can be a vital part of their jobs. It can be a huge help for some in making decisions in terms of who to bet on and how. Or it can be that they just can’t live without a daily dose of their beloved motorsport.

Make sure your NASCAR schedule sources are valid and up-to-date. The last thing you need these days is wrong information regarding the stuff you love.
